Gail Supanich (1950-2011)

Gail came to Pioneer Valley Montessori School with a B.A. in Education from the University of Michigan, following her completion of the Montessori Teacher Training Program in 1973. She completed her Montessori teacher training in all programs the school had to offer and taught students at all levels during her tenure at PVMS. She further completed her education, earning her Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Westfield State University. She became the PVMS Director (Head of School). Later Gail went on to work in the Springfield Public Schools' Montessori Program as a mentor to newly trained teachers. Additionally, she worked as a teacher trainer for various New England teacher training programs and was a conference presenter and consultant, presenting workshops locally and nationally. She served as a member of the Montessori Schools of Massachusetts Board of Directors for over twenty years, as well as a Commissioner on the American Montessori Society School Accreditation Commission. All six of her children are PVMS alumni.

Gail Supanich headed PVMS for approximately 30 years and was instrumental in creating the high quality program at Pioneer Valley Montessori School. Gail believed that it was very important for the school to become accredited by AISNE (Association of Independent Schools in New England) and AMS (American Montessori Society) so that parents could be assured that their children were receiving a high quality education.

All donations to this fund will be used for emergency scholarship funds so that students can finish out a school year, after a job loss or other family crisis.
