Art

The Elementary and Kindergarten children have an art class each week in which they work with a talented local artist and teacher on various projects.

The art curriculum encompasses:

• hands-on exploration of fine art materials and techniques

• learning the elements of art such as line, space and color theory

• familiarizing students with basic art vocabulary and terminology

• an introduction to some of the classic and contemporary artists who have made a contribution to the art world

• studying global art and cultural crafts

• encouraging the use of recycled materials

Recently one technique our students focused on was positive/negative space and perspective (for example the play of light and darkness). The did this through intricate paper cutting techniques.

Toddler and Preschool Art 

Our toddler and preschoolers have ample opportunities for art activities within their classroom whenever they choose. The teachers create new art activities to inspire and challenge them regularly.
