Toddler Lead Teacher

Pioneer Valley Montessori School in Springfield, MA is seeking an AMS/AMI Infant/Toddler certified lead teacher for our toddler classroom, ages 18 months - 3 years.  Hours are 7:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, with a 45 minute break.  We operate on a school-year schedule, September-June which includes closing for three vacations (Winter, February and April) and observance of many holidays.  Starting salary range - $26,000-$30,000 annually, commensurate with experience.  A candidate who is currently finishing their Montessori training may be considered if they have other relevant experience.  Additional hours may be available at an hourly rate during the summer.  See below for additional details.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1.  Tending to your students:  Providing clear, firm and kind lessons and classroom structure; complete commitment and adherence to tenets of a Montessori classroom and culture; deep respect and kindness for each child; observing and guiding each child to work perfectly matched to the sensitive periods and abilities eliciting concentration and growth; creating a beautiful, clean and inviting prepared classroom environment daily; cultivating a culture of peaceful and respectful community; curriculum development and upkeep; record keeping and observation of the classroom setting daily, with timely and insightful responses.

2.  Partnership with parents:  Strong and compassionate parent communication; building partnerships with parents; parent education on Montessori principles, inspiring and educating parents; and engaging parents in our community through volunteerism, presentations etc.

3.  Administrative responsibilities: Timely and well-written notes to parents; bi-annual progress reports; attending faculty and all staff meetings and taking part in discussions fully; strong and demonstrated commitment to both retention and new enrollment; and supporting and adhering to standards and requests by the parents and administration in a timely manner. 

4.  Leadership responsibilities:  Interacting with children, parents and staff with kindness, patience and respect; supervising, training and supporting assistants in your classroom in mastery of Montessori principles, and continuous learning and growth in child development and community leadership; being a role model for professionalism, skills, attitude, knowledge, grace, etc. for all staff.

5.  Professional Growth & Development:  includes, but is not limited to, a constant deepening of the understanding of Montessori principles; reading and re-reading Dr. Montessori’s writings; observing outside of PVMS, observing within PVMS; seeking and attending professional development opportunities that inspire and educate you as a teacher/guide and leader; observing and reflecting on your own classroom daily; and making adjustments and materials based on your reflections.
