Toddler Montessori @Home - Matching Letters

Matching Letters: This concentrates on familiarity with letters, visual discrimination and fine motor control

You will need:

  • Letters - plastic, wood, magnets whatever you have on hand, or use the PDF link below to print page 1 a copy of lower case letters.

  • Something to match the letter to - make a copy of the letters on a flatbed scanner, write the letters on paper trying to maintain the style on the letter, use the PDF link below to print out page 2 and 3 of matching cards.

Process:

Demonstrate how to match the letters. Then invite the child to take a turn. Start with a few letters and increase with proficiency. Note: When referring to letters in a Montessori classroom we use the phonetic sounds for letters to prepare for reading, use this link to click on each letter to hear it said phonetically.
