Toddler Montessori @Home - Bubble Mixing
Bubble Mixing: this work strengthens muscles used in wrist rotation and is also a ton of fun!
You will need:
Kitchen Whisk - plastic or metal … what you would use to mix in the kitchen. If you have an old fashioned crank mixer those are also fun, but may be a bit too challenging depending on the child’s motor skill level.
liquid soap - hand soap, dish soap any liquid soap will do. If you have a small bottle (like a travel size bottle) to put the soap in that is good, but not necessary.
large dish pan or bowl - large enough to hold water and allow for mixing.
water/small measuring cup - you can put some water in a small pitcher or measuring cup or invite your child to fill the measuring cup. if your child is not ready, interested or unable to collect water for themselves you can just put the water in the bowl for them.
Towel/cloth/sponge - for clean up
*Note: We suggest that you only use objects that you think are appropriate for your child to use independently.
Process:
This work can be done in a leveled manner.
For the younger child - present them with a bowl with some water and about three drops of liquid soap. Show your child how to use the whisk to create and spread bubbles in the water and Then invite the child to take a turn.
For an older child or one who is willing or interested - demonstrate how to fill the pitcher/measuring cup from the sink, then pour the water in the to bowl. Add three drops of the liquid soap and show then how to use whisk to create and spread bubbles in the water. Invite the child to take a turn in doing all the steps.
Clean up. Its always important for the child to participate in taking care of the work and putting everything back in its home.
